To The Best Husband

Today is our 4th anniversary and wow has life changed since 2005!  Our marriage has definitely started on a different course than most but that's okay.  We had Drew early on in our marriage and it was a roller coaster both in the NICU and out.  I probably don't need to go into detail, needless to say life was pretty tough back then.  Life was also challenging when Drew was discharged from the NICU.  As newlyweds we had to juggle the frequent NG feedings, oxygen, heart monitors, medications, doctors appointments, and therapy appointments.  We had to do this all on our own because we had just moved to Chicago to jump start our careers.

To be honest the past four years seems more like ten but that's okay too.  We have done a good job raising Drew and we're soon adding another little one to the family.  Drew is the happiest and smartest kid I know because he's Drew (!) and because of us.  We've devoted everything and anything to get him to where he is today.  I know that our relationship is a major ingredient in Drew's recipe for success.  We have the uncanny ability to laugh at situations that are totally not funny.  For example, we take a lot of "vomit" showers in our house.  Even our dog has gotten sprayed a few times with partially digested macaroni and cheese surprise.  I remember one time Drew puked all over our pug and he shook his coat and took off running for our furniture.  Of course when our pug Stewie shook his coat he sprayed vomit all over our dinner and us.  Mike took off running after him only to slip and fall in the vomit.  Then Drew leaned over in his Kimbachair and let Mike taste a little bit more of that macaroni and cheese surprise all over Mike's face.  We just can't make this stuff up!!  Back in the day when it was really bad, about a year ago, it was either laugh or be placed in a padded room.  Well, we're still here.

We have plenty more situations that we would chuckle at.  On date night we like to take apart Drew's walkers, standers, and Kimbachair to clean out the puke or change the settings.  If you peek in our windows you will see us sitting in a sea of metal doo-dads withquestion marks floating above our heads.  (If you think putting a crib together is difficult well try putting some of Drew's equipment together-it's a hoot) Then of course diarrhea night is always fun.  I don't think I need to get into that...

What it boils down to is that I love how we can take everything in stride.  You are my rock when things are rough at the homefront andi'm yours when Drew turns up the waterworks.  I love how at the end of the day we can always forgive each other and go to bed happy.  I can't imagine doing any of this without you.  I know that whatever life brings we'll be there for eachother.  However, I'd like to be an optimist and let you know that life will only get better with each passing day.

Here's to four years of married bliss (I just clicked my glass of milk with the monitor for traditions sake.  I'm livin' on the wild side tonight!!)

Cheers to Mike and Kristin.

PS  Cheers to you to Drew!
